DIY book Kindle holder

11:15 AM

I love reading books, but when I travel (or just go home for the weekend), it's not easy to bring all the books I would like with me. So my friends bought a Kindle for me and I love it (thanks guys, love you 😗). Now I had to make a Kindle holder, to keep it safe (I couldn't just buy one, that's not me 😛). Here is what I made and how I made it plus all the tips and things I would have done differently next time.

Let's get started! 😊

STEP 1: First, find an old book you know you won't need it anymore. You can check some book stores or libraries, sometimes they have some old books that they give away for free or for very cheap. You can get one with hard covers (this way you can skip some steps later), but soft covers will work too.

STEP 2: Measure around your Kindle and mark where you need to cut.
Tip: Leave a bit bigger hole than the size of your kindle, this way it's easier to put it in and out.

STEP 3: Using an exacto knife and a ruler for straight lines, cut where you marked.
Tip: Try gluing the pages together before cutting, it'll make the gluing easier.

This is what you should get. Keep cutting and removing the center of the pages until you can nicely hide your Kindle in the hole you made. 🙈
STEP 4: Cut a nice piece of wrapping paper and glue it on the page at the end of your cut pages (I hope you get what I mean, if not, see the picures below). This is kind of optional, but I think it adds a nice touch. 😇
STEP 5: Glue all the cut pages together one by one (as I already said earlier, you can do this before cutting, it might be easier). This will take a while, so put on your favorite program to entertain you while you work. 😉
Tip: Straighten the pages upwards  each time you glue a new page, this way they will look better at the end.
STEP 6: Take some black elastic and measure the corners. Cut 4 elastics as measuerd. You will use this elastic to hold your Kindle in place.
STEP 7: Sew all the four elastics at the corners of your page with wrapping paper. Before sewing, I put a washi tape so the stitches wouldn't rip the paper. A better alternative would be to just stick a piece of fabric the size of the page on it and sew with it.
Tip: Sew each elastic on very well, in lines that are parallel to the sides of your hole, so they will hold the Kindle in place.
STEP 8: If you want nice edges of the hole, smooth all of them together with the exacto knife.
STEP 9: Glue "the hole" (all the pages that you glued together earlier) on this page with elastics.

STEP 10: Measure the elastic to go around your book, cut it and and sew the ends together to get a loop of elastic. It will hold your »book« closed.

STEP 11: Take a cardboard (I used some old milk package) and measure it to hold your book. This way, you'll make your soft cover book into a hard cover one. 😉

STEP 12: Cut the cardboard with the exacto knife.
STEP 13: Take off the elastic and glue the cardboard on the front side of your book.
STEP 14: Glue the center part of your book on the cardboard. You should use the book to fold the cardboard at the right place to go all around.
STEP 15: Now put the elastic back on and glue the back side of the book.
STEP 16: Use a BIG book to press it for a while to let the glue set.
STEP 17: Wrap your book in a wrapping paper of your choice. Before wrapping it, remove the elastic from the front page.
Be careful around the elastic, you should leave it out. 😆
If you want (and if you used a plain wrapping paper like I did), you can decorate it with some stickers, dots and your name? 😛

STEP 18: When you're happy with your design (khm khm, not really a design, but OK 😛), wrap the whole book in a clear sticky paper (or whatever you call it xD).

Again, be careful with the elastic.
 Aaaaand you're done! 😀
I love how it turned out, cant wait to use it 😍

Tip: I pinned a bobby pin on the pages, so I can turn my Kindle on and off without taking it in and out.
