Tips for DIY-ing

1:36 PM

Hi guys 😊

Today I have some tips for all of you, who want to start DIY-ing stuff but don't have any idea how to begin. Let's go through it step by step, it makes it seem much less scary. 😜

STEP 1: How to decide what to DIY? How to get ideas?

Just one word - Pinterest. I love it, I always browse there and get so many ideas. That's the main idea bin for me. But of course I get inspired everywhere I go. Some ideas I get when I see something cool in a store and just think "Hmm, I could make it and it would be way cheaper.". And of course, when I need something, I always try to DIY it if possible. 😀 And what to do with all the ideas? I DIY stuff I can't find in stores or I find in stores but are way to expensive or when I'm just bored. 😇

STEP 2: Make a plan!

Now that you know what you're gonna make, it's time to figure out how you're gonna do it. I love sketches (I know I can't really draw but still 🙈), I think they help me a lot. The next must for me while planning a DIY are list - a make a list of supplies and check what I already have, then make a shopping list (we love those, right 😜).

STEP 3: Where to get supplies?

I first check what I have at home. I tend to collect stuff I might need for DIY-ing all the time. For example, when I get a present, I collect the ribbon and decor, when I see some cool packaging I think I might use, I save it. And so on - you get the idea. Some supplies you just have to buy. I start by checking a local dollar store or something similar (in Slovenia - Tedi). What I can't get there, I buy in a supermarket and my last stop is a craft store. I basically just check the cheapest options first, because who doesn't want to save money. 😛

STEP 4: Prepare the working area.

Remember the art class in elementary school, where you had to put newspaper on your desk to protect if from getting all dirty? Well you should still do it. At least f you want to protect you desk, floor of whatever is your favorite working area. 😇

STEP 5: Just do it!

Time to get to work. Don't be afraid to improvise if something you planned doesn't work out. Be creative and most importantly - enjoy! That's the point, right? 😊

I hope my tips help you get started and when you do make something, share it with me on Instagram (@elarosaria), I would love to see what you came up with. 😊

xoxo
